Elizabethan Stays
(Back)
These elaborately embroidered stays are too beautiful to be
covered! Based on the corset worn by an effigy of Queen Elizabeth
in England, these fully boned stays have straps and tabs at the
bottom to help distribute the weight of heavy skirts. They are
front lacing so the wearer never needs help to get into them. The conical
shape makes them very comfortable to wear as does the imitation reed boning.
Cotton fabric allows for comfort on hot days. The all-over pattern of embroidery
is executed in a fall color palate consisting of oranges, yellows,
greens, browns, and tan. The maple leaves on the prominent back tabs are
especially exquisite being worked in several shades to achieve a life-like
appearance.
